Murder Village is an archive of LGBTQ+ people murdered in Toronto, from 1949 onward. It exists to remember them and to make their stories findable. The Village should be a refuge for the 2SLGBTQI+ community and the people who love them. This site aims to be accurate, diligent and inclusive. It cannot always be comfortable, because the stories it holds are not comfortable.
Comments are welcome from:
- Family, friends and anyone who knew the people remembered here
- Researchers, writers and journalists looking for information or sources
- Readers who have corrections, context or memories to add
If you are a relative and would rather not post publicly, say so in your comment and it will be treated as a private message.
How comments work
Every comment is read and approved by hand before it appears. Your email address is required but is never published or shared.
Comments will not be approved if they:
- Attack, mock or blame the victims, who cannot answer for themselves
- Contain slurs, abuse or personal attacks on anyone
- Are spam, advertising, or signed with links to unrelated sites
- Contain more than two links (these are held for review)
Comments may be edited for length or removed at the editor’s discretion. Repeated violations will result in a permanent block of the commenter’s name, email address and IP address.
You are responsible for what you post. By submitting a comment, you confirm that it is your own and accept responsibility for its content.
Names
Each victim’s name appears as it was reported at the time, so that families and researchers can find them. For an explanation of why birth names are included for trans victims, see [link to your names page].
Case outcomes
Every article records the outcome of the case, including acquittals, when found. Requests to change or remove case information will not be answered in the comments.
